The Voice or The Rap?

Why do we love watching reality tv shows? Today’s reality tv shows are awfully well-known. People love watching them due to the excitability that they can get from the competitions or making jokes on the participants. Many reality tv shows are singing races and letting people to scramble with the champions and the awards. Since the reality tv shows need the immediate performance, the cast members will have poor action which make the audiences laugh. I’m here to share two popular reality tv shows from different countries, “The Voice” and “The Rap of China”.

First and foremost, “The Voice” and “The Rap of China” are famous reality tv shows. “The Voice” is a popular America reality talent show, which provides a large stage for people to sing and battle to win the big prize, hosted by Carson Daly. There’re four coaches, Christina Aguilera, CeeLo Green, Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine and Blake Shelton in American season 1. The Voice is very famous in the world which successfully produced in many seasons. It’s American season 17 now!

‘Do you have freestyle?’ These words become a craze in China which is spoken by a Chinese coach Kris Wu in “The Rap of China”. This is a well-known Chinese rap competition show produced by iQiyi. The rappers will face many different challenges that are given by the coaches, for instance, receiving a question which is “My Secret” and then they must immediately rap one minute according to the topic. The show has been credited for making Hip Hop widespread in China.

“The Voice” focuses on plenty of music types, such as classical, rock and old country music. However, “The Rap of China” only concentrates on Hip Hop music. Moreover, most of the audiences of “The Voice” are from the world. Music is for everyone! Different types of music can bring audience different feelings or learn about the culture as music is the ‘universal language’. In “The Voice”, the singers spread their culture or express their feelings through many types of music. It can definitely touch the hearts of audiences in deep.

Since Hip Hop is a well-known culture in China and the language of the show is PuTonghua, the target audience of “The Rap of China” is generally in Asian region. There’s only rapping and Hip Hop in the show. It may not absorb the audiences from other countries such as Korea and America due to the difference of culture background. If the producers can turn to other countries and spread the Chinese Hip Hop music, it can build an international audience for this show. Thus, the show will become more famous in the world.

Although the audience groups are not similar, the kind of the shows are the same. The two reality tv shows are both singing contest, obviously. In the competitions, they both are choosing the most talented singer or rapper by many rounds and battles. The biggest feature of “The Voice” is ‘Blind Auditions’. The identity of the singers is hided to avoid bias from the four judges until they turn their chair around to the singers. Also, “The Rap of China” allows performers to wear masks and sing. One of a rapper, Hip Hop Man, is concealing his face behind the mask and bringing Hip Hop music to the fullest.

Last but not least, the concept of producing “The Voice” is to create diverse opportunities for people in different culture to achieve their singing dream. They hope to promote different culture and the beautiful voice to the global. What’s more, “The Rap of China” is more focus on the entertainment and creativity. They want to spread the Hip Hop music and raise the awareness of China culture. Hoping everyone can learn more about the features of the countries. That’s the attraction of reality tv shows.
