“Unlimited movies, TV shows, and more. Watch anywhere, cancel anytime” is the slogan of Netflix. Today’s teenagers love using mobile devices to watch videos, Netflix is definitely a well-known online TV platform in this generation. It’s a streaming service that offers plenty of award-winning TV shows, movies, anime, documentaries and more on thousands of internet-connected devices. By providing on-demand content, creating interesting original TV shows for audiences to consume content in the way that they prefer. The company excels in using user data to better serve customers without limitation and make a breakthrough among television.

Is the rise of Netflix benefit the general public? I agree with that.

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings Reed discussed the company and its unique corporate culture: “Ultimately, flexibility is more important than efficiency over the long term” from The New York Times-sponsored Dealbook conference on November 2, 2015. Netflix came out with streaming services in 2007. Customers could watch movies or programs on a computer, TV screen, tablet, phone or even gaming device! Don’t you think it is cool for the public? I have the Netflix app in my phone and I always watch the videos inside. We just need to pay a flat and cheap monthly fee, around $63 to $93 HK dollars, then we can consume any program at anywhere and anytime in our mobile devices. As we can see that, flexibility is a key of the success of Netflix that brings benefit to us to watch different types of programs which apt our interests.

Many people think that traditional TV industry is threatened by Netflix’s success. Before the rise of Netflix, people watch TV shows only by television. We need to absorb numerous advertisements at the same time. Watching television is wasting our time. However, Netflix changes how people watch TV program. With Netflix, people can watch several movies of programmes from different entertainment companies, for instance, the BBC, the CW, FOX, etc. It’s surely a great news for all of us, the TV shows lovers! Also, Netflix can abandon advertisements. We can enjoy the whole movies without any commercials. It makes people feel bad to watch many advertisements. Since Netflix allows people to stop the videos in anytime if we have something to busy with, we won’t afraid of missing any important part of the movies and concern of wasting time. Compared with other TV industry or free streaming platforms like YouTube, Netflix obviously has a large advantage in solving the problem of wasting time of the public.

In my opinion, the TV program of traditional TV industry doesn’t interest me a lot. Take TVB, the HK biggest TV company, as an example, many of the TVB drama serials were produced at its TV City Studios. It’s very boring to watch the similar shooting places in every TV program. In its overseas edition on Monday, the Communist Party mouthpiece People’s Daily ran an article titled “A visit to TVB, the star factory and the origin of Hong Kong drama” which pointed out that the lack of investment and creativity has led to a decline in the broadcaster’s productions in recent years. Besides that, Netflix can certainly absorb the interest of teenagers. The new Netflix zombie comedy “Daybreak” offers an unwieldy mix of winking comedy, gory thrills, satirical social commentary, and earnest teen storytelling. The movies in Netflix makes us to feel exhilarated!

Last but not least, Netflix is definitely a famous and good thing for the public. The rise of Netflix creates huge new wave of impact to the creative industries. Many companies are working to overtake Netflix to attract more audiences. It proved that Netflix has broken the rules of creating TV programs which brings immense of satisfaction for the general public and influence the future content of the production that interest us.
